Do You Give A Hoot?

When a male pigeon puffs up his feathers and extends his chest, he becomes twice its size, only to impress the female pigeon. Except not once did I ever see an impressed female pigeon. Usually the puffed up guy chases the girl around till she flies away with her friends and the guy deflates back to his normal size and walks away in shame. Till of course he sees another girl and the process begins all over. Yet why cant he just remain the same? Not walk around like a proud bird that he wants to be seen as, but just as a pigeon, a rat with wings looking for a mate. What if the girl accepted the faade? Hell end up like the rest, knock her up and fly off to the park to eat some seeds from the old man. While shes in the tree feeding the 4 bastard children. If he stuck to being himself, and if she didnt follow the rules set by society maybe this relationship would work. Maybe none of them would have to lie to be something else and in the end if they would be true then their whole relationship would be true. Maybe they would grow old, sitting on a branch and hooting till the sun goes down. But no, this wont happen anytime soon because he will continue puffing up his feathers and extending his chest while she will continue putting on a chase never realizing the happiness outside the monotony of life.

I would say pigeons are on to something big here that we humans dont know but thats not true. Were just as dumb as they are.
